A research was conducted to identify factors that make Strong School Culture and their impact on Sustainable School Performance in terms of students’ achievements. For this research data was collected by random sampling from 182 schools based at United States of America.
Data was collected in 2008 and research was published in 2019 in Journal of Teaching and Teacher Education. 3893 teachers from 182 schools partcipated in the research. The research was of high value (8 out of 10) as it was an empirical research and data was collected from a large sample based on random sampling. Furthermore, statistical models were used for data analysis to ensure that the research sample truly represented actual population.
Previously it was argued that school improvement could be made by imparting pressure for accountability with focus on competency of staff that resulted in hiring and firing of staff to bring best workers.
This research introduced the concept of School Culture. It has identified that Schools having Strong Culture elements such as providing support to students, having environment of trust & respect, entailing optimistic approach and developing professional learning community. The research further found that such schools with Strong Culture have positive and higher impact on school performance. The research proved through academic research that there is a strong association between school culture and school performance.
